December 30, 2010

Ending the year with a 5k

As scheduled, I hit the treadmil for a three mile run around 12:45. I was feeling lazy, sleepy, my eyes hurt, and my legs didn’t want to move. But I knew I had set a goal for myself and I was going to accomplish it. And I did!
I ran 3.19 miles (stopped running at 3.10 and walked for .09 miles)!
It felt great and I feel so accomplished now that my workout is out of the way for the rest of the day.
There’s no better way to leave 2010 than with a strong 3.19 mile run. I felt consistent, strong, and powerful. I have so much more energy now and I feel great! However, I’ve been relying on a little trick to help me out through my “longer” runs.
I cover up the time and distance with paper/post-it notes. This makes me focus on running. And only that. I run ’till I can’t run anymore (or until I know I’ve at least reached my goal). This helps me stick it out through the tougher runs and not constantly stare at the time and distance and dread that I’ve only gone .25 miles so far or only 5 minutes. It puts a lot of things in perspective and helps me focus on my posture and breath and how I feel rather than just a number.

I always write on the post-its to remind myself that I am capable of whatever I put my mind to. This specific post-it note says, “you are strong, beautiful, and capable you can do it just imagine how amazing you’ll feel after.”
This is my favorite part. When I get to pull back the sticky note and surprise myself with how much I ran. It is the best feeling ever!!!
I think everyone should at least try this out once. You’d be shocked with how much longer you can go when you’re not staring down at the time and distance the whole time. And it’s fun because you get to surprise yourself with how much you ran at the end! It’s a win-win situation. And I won :)
After I showed and got dressed I made myself a quick lunch.
Leftover vegetable fried brown rice from last nights dinner
With some strawberries and icy cold water yummm
Well, I’m off to maybe play a little Kinect (loooove this ‘toy’ from Xbox) or put pictures into frames that I recieved for Christmas!
Enjoy your day :)
